Education
I graduated from Cornell University with two
undergraduate degrees -- a Bachelor of Science in
Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in
Theatre, Film and Communication Arts

I would like to claim to have had the foresight that
studying these two seemingly disparate fields would
prepare for the convergence of technology,
entertainment, experience and usability -- but I'd be
lying if I did.

I loved my time at Cornell. I was a theatre geek with
physics and mechanics books, wearing dance tights

Engineering school taught me how to problem solve.
How to find simple solutions to complex problems and
how to write and solve "If...then" statements. The
foundation of the work I do today comes from this
component of my education.

The performing arts introduced me to the world of storytelling. I learned that
every experience, be a movie, a trip to the store or a conversation has a
beginning a middle and an end. I learned how to communicate with words, with
symbols, with sound and sense. The passion that I have for sustainable planning
and design was nurtured here.
A few years ago, I had the
good fortune to be a
student again when I joined
the ranks at The John F.
Kennedy School of
Government at Harvard. As
a Mid-career MPA (Masters
in Public Administration)
student I was immersed for a
year with over 200
like-minded individuals from
over 50 countries who are
also interested in making the
world a better place.

My year at KSG was unbelievably eye-opening and inspiring. My focus was
on social enterprise and corporate responsibility and I learned a lot. But
ultimately it was the experience of being with these amazing people that
will stay with me forever. I can't express how life-changing the mid-career
program is. I can simply say that it was the best year of my life thus far, and
would recommend it to absolutely anyone... no matter where your interests
lie.
